What is Op Bravo?

Op. Bravo is a BJCP Sanctioned Homebrew Competition and Hero Recognition event. The intent is for contestants to enter their beers to be judged on site on 11/11/2017. A hero is defined as anyone current or former military, police, fire or ems.

What is the entry deadline?

The deadline to enter beer is the day of the event. No new beers will be accepted after 11:30 am on 11/11/2017.

What time do I show up?

Please be at the brewery at 11 am on 11/11/2017. This will give time for a pre-event meeting and give you a chance to get setup.

What do I bring?

Bring your Bill of Lading (printed from the website) for all transported homebrew. Bring 3 labeled bottles for the BJCP judging. And… Bring as much of what you want to serve (along with any serving equipment needed) for the Hero's Choice event. We will do our best to have bagged ice on hand to chill with.

What are the entry requirements?

Brewers are not required to enter an entire keg or multiple cases of bottles; however, as there is a people’s choice aspect, they are encouraged to bring plenty.  Just enter all additional Hero Choice entries on the website (for no charge) so we can have a map of location/styles for the judges.

Can I enter as a homebrew club or team?

The entry fee is based on an individual brewer entering the competition. Given the fact that the entry fee is minimal considering the swag handed out per person, only 1 packet will be given per entry. Should you wish to have a co-brewer present with you at the competition to help pour or solicit votes, you can email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to arrange for a tour for them at a nominal charge.

What is in it for me?

The entry fee will be $20 and will include admission to the event, pint glass, and 2 beers. Plus, you get to have a great time sharing homebrew and telling heroes thanks for their service!

How does the judging work?

Judging will be 2 fold. First, a head judge and steward will judge the entrants based on declared styles and BJCP guidelines. This will rank places 1st, 2nd and 3rd in a "BEST BEER" style competition. The second portion of judging will be people’s choice voting. Individuals designated as heroes or judges for the day will be given a voting token and a wristband. Once inside the judging area, they will be served a sample from the brewer entering the beer. This will allow the brewer to get immediate feedback and will afford them an opportunity to say Thanks in person. At the end of the event, the brewer with the most points from voting tokens wins Heroe’s choice.

What are the prizes?

First prize in the BJCP competition would receive a prize pack and the opportunity to do a ProAm brew with Shannon Brewing. As this is a BCJP competition, this will allow for a Shannon ProAm entry in GABF. Second and third places will receive prize packs.

People’s Choice will receive a stainless steel growler with Shannon Brewery beer in it. Also, their beer recipe will be marketed in a kit sold to homebrew shops nationwide with a designation, Hero Approved.
